Modeller Build Logs

Renault FT-17, Spanish Republicans

By Ilya Yut

About a year ago I decided to build FT model. The only available was the RPM kit. I'm going to improve the base kit. the cannon tank with round turret, with plastc tracks from RPM, instead of the vinyl ones in the box, resin rivets, add some stowage like canvas, metal tow chain etc.

FT tanks were bought by Spain in '20s to operate against rebels in Marocco. By the mid '30s about 10-20 were operational and used both by Republicans and Nationalists. These Republican FTs, the MG and cannon version, were used during fighting of Madrid.

The FT running gear is a tricky thing, it is in my opinion, more curious than WW2 tanks.

The detail fit is good overall, but not perfect - putty and sanding are necessary. The kit springs are replaced with scratch-built items.
