This is another of my "Shelf Queen" blogs that I started a couple of years ago. I want to get it done so I am starting my blog over again.
The kit is the Tasca Panzer II Ausf.L "Lynx", the 4th Pz.Div. version. I was adding an interior but the lack of god references has killed that dream. I intend to build tank "41" as it appeared in the winter of 1943/44 with the 4th Panzer Division on the Eastern Front. The kit is generally very good, but there are a few areas that can be improved. I'll be focusing on these areas.
I have been collecting references on the Luchs for a long time now. In addition to _every_ available book I have a collection of unique photographs too. With the publication of the recent Panzer Tracts 2-2 book there are finally accurate scale plans _and_ information about what is beneath those engine deck grills.
I also am taking next week off so now is about as good time as any to get this project and blog completed.

| Hull Assembly | Jul 3, 2008 |
I have assembled the main hull pieces. They went together without any problem and the hull is quite solid. The fenders are integrally moulded (sort of) with a major hull part. I usually cut off integrally moulded fenders and either thin them out or replace them with scratch-built or after-market photo-etched items. For this model I decided to thin out the kit fenders.
There are several weld beads that need to be added. They are shown in the assembled hull drawing in Panzer Tracts 2-2, page 23. I thought I'd try Tamiya Epoxy Putty (Quick Type) this time.
To make the welds I just mix up a small amount of the putty and "force" a small strip into the corner of the weld. I used a special tool made of a plastic fork. The putty does not stick to the material that the fork is made from. I also texture the putty with this tool.
I found that I sometimes ruined previous welds with my fingers as I worked on new welds. So I decided to divide the work over several evenings. When the putty sets I will clean it up and make any repairs.
I also damaged my louvers while adding the welds, so I carefully removed them. I'll fix them back when the remaining welds are added.
