GMC 2.5 ton truck with 40mm Bofors

By Warrink Brothers
Started: Aug 11, 2003
Updated: Oct 1, 2004

This is Tamiya's GMC with a Masters Productions conversion set to make the 40mm Bofors variant used by the Free French in late ww2. Both kits are very good and everything goes together well.
I have written a review on the conversion set which you can find here: http://www.track-link.net/reviews/k1162

Chapter 6. - First layer of paintOct 1, 2004

Finally! It has taken almost a year, but the GMC has now got a layer of OD paint. It may be a bit brownish, but I'm reasonably happy with it. Next stop - detail painting and marking..

Chapter 5 - Construction Finished!Dec 8, 2003

The GMC is now finished. I added the load beds, stowage boxes, spare barrel and the mudguards/wheel brakes. Some parts of the rear load bed were replaced with plastic card because the kit parts did not fit well.

The spare barrel didn't fit well, so I packed up the rear mounting clamp about a... more

Chapter 4 - More Cab DetailsAug 16, 2003

I added some more detail to the cab. I have numbered them for your convenience :-) .

1 and 7. Added swivels and eyelets for the door slings

2. Scribed in a dividing line between the rifles and their racks. I didn't bother with where the rack meets the rifle butt, because this area is nearly... more

Chapter 3 - Front DetailsAug 14, 2003

I replaced the grillwork on the brushguards with copper wire, as Tamiya depict this as metal strips like the radiator grille. For some reason, Tamiya omitted the bonnet clips, which I added from stretched sprue and punchings cut in half. These are very obvious details and I can't think of a reason... more

Chapter 2 - Bofors Gun PlatformAug 13, 2003

The Bofors gun and its platform go together very well, and everything except the seats was done in two evenings (and I am a slow worker!). The equilibrators suffered from mould shift, and I had to rebuild the end caps and small fittings. Building the sight was fiddly, but it fit well. Masters' etched... more

Chapter 1 - Cab detailsAug 11, 2003

Tamiya's cab is nicely detailed, but there's always more to add! I added pedals (the pedals are moulded to the cab floor, typically Tamiya), an arch of bolts on the dashboard, extra reinforcing ribs between the dashboard and the cab sides (the ones painted green), and the rings and swivels... more
