A couple of weeks ago I wrote up a review here on Track-Link of the Legend Sherman III conversion set (LF 1096). I really liked the set and couldn’t wait to start on it. So I thought, why not do a blog to show how the build-up comes together? So here it is. Up Next: What items am I going to use?

Chapter 25 - The CrewSep 11, 2005
For the tank crew I used the excellent Warriors 35389 British Desert Rat Tankers set. This consists of two half figures for the driver and co-driver and a full figure for the commander. All three are holding binoculars. I thought this a bit strange but after looking at it long enough, I decided that it would work OK for this model. The commander’s right arm is in an odd position and looks like he’s supposed to be smoking a cigarette.

I didn’t do much modification to the poses for these figures. I did modify the commander’s head position and also his right hand so I could add a cup which seemed like a better pose.

I painted the figures in Tamiya Khaki. I picked out a few details like the commander’s pistol and the belts on the figures and then dry brushed with tan. I gave them all a wash of raw umber.

I left the heads off and painted them separately. For the skin, I first painted with a dark flesh tone and then picked out the highlights with Testor’s Model Master Tan. I’ve found this combination to work well for Caucasian people that have been out in the field and sun for a while. I was very careful washing the heads with raw umber. I used a small brush to better control where the wash went.

I put the heads on and my crew was ready for deployment.
