A couple of weeks ago I wrote up a review here on Track-Link of the Legend Sherman III conversion set (LF 1096). I really liked the set and couldn’t wait to start on it. So I thought, why not do a blog to show how the build-up comes together? So here it is.

| Chapter 6 - Painting the Lower Hull | Aug 20, 2005 |
At this point in the build, I realized that I’d have to paint the lower hull and drive sprockets. I needed to do this so I could then mount the front fender/sand skirt. I almost always paint the whole model at once so it felt a little weird to only paint the lower half.
However, I did see this as an opportunity. I just bought my first new airbrush and compressor in 30 years so this was the perfect project to try it out. I had been using an old single action, external mix airbrush with a compressor that had no regulator (my best guess is that I was getting about 25 psi). I bought an internal mix, dual action airbrush with a compressor that could go to 50 psi and has a pressure regulator. I set the pressure to 35 psi and had at it.
First I painted the whole lower hull in Tamiya Acrylic NATO brown for a pre-shade. I then did the panel work using Tamiya Buff. After I got done I felt the color was too dark so I went back with Model Master Sand to make it lighter. I think I ended up with a color that comes close to what I’ve seen published for the Sherman’s of this era.
