Modeller Build Logs

Early Jagdpanther

By Russ Takashima
Started: May 9, 2007
Updated: Dec 6, 2007

My goal is to convert an early '70s Tamiya motorized mid-Jagdpanther into an early Jagdpanther in Normandy 1944 with a full interior, photo etch, new track, turned barrel, etc. Essentialy add almost every single after market part on to the model. I am also planning on adding figures and putting the model in a diorama.

The interior pieces have all been painted and glued into the chassis. The interior is from the Verlinden set. The only scratch built detail is the tank commander's seat. I am guessing he sits behind the radio operator who is to the right of the driver. I am debating on whether to build the gunner's seat, who would be behind the driver, as it won't visible inside the hull. The paint chipping is done with Vallejo paints. I over did them since they won't be very visible once the hull is put on. It is very dark inside once everthing is put together. The interior has also been washed with a Vallejo brown to tone down the brightness of the ivory colour. There is some debate on which way the shells should be oriented in the shell racks. I originally was going to place the shells in the 2 rear racks with the tip facing towards the front, but was having difficulty in getting the metal box around the shells to match up. The fit is much better with the shells facing towards the rear, so I went with the rear facing shells.
