Modeller Build Logs

Early Jagdpanther

By Russ Takashima
Started: May 9, 2007
Updated: Dec 6, 2007

My goal is to convert an early '70s Tamiya motorized mid-Jagdpanther into an early Jagdpanther in Normandy 1944 with a full interior, photo etch, new track, turned barrel, etc. Essentialy add almost every single after market part on to the model. I am also planning on adding figures and putting the model in a diorama.

The hull has been attached to the chassis. The gun cradle has been installed and the mantle and barrel added, but not glued on yet. Dut to the ever present dimensional difficulties, the gun cradle does not sit perfectly within the hull and therefore the gun periscope is off and I am having problems trying to get it to sit properly. Since the hull is glued in place this may be a problem. The front fenders are both from Aber. In my opinion, if you're going to use etched fenders, then you have to beat them up. The decals were applied over a coat of Future, then sealed with a brush coat of Future. Actually the number decals are the original Tamiya decals that came with the kit, not bad for 30 year old decals. I have started to weather this beast. First a brush coat of Future, then a wash of cheap arts & craft brown acrylic paint. Chipping was done by brush using Vallejo acrylic paints. I have some more weathering planned, some more washes, streaking, stains and a coat of dust followed by a flat coat. Next up is the crew.
