Modeller Build Logs

Monroe Perdu Sunken Road

Well let's see. My buddy Saul Garcia asked me to do a build review on this wonderful set about a year and a half ago. If he only know how slow I really am, he might have had second thoughts! But all the work is done and I am ready to share my little adventure with you!

I am going to use the Sunken Road base as a basis for an early morning D-Day vignette where 3 paratroopers from the 82nd ariborne have surprised a speiss and his helper hauling food to their unit behind the lines. What a surprise the Para's get when they discover BEER! Unfortunatly for the Germans, the boys at Battalion don't want prisioners, but they do want the beer! I will leave it up to your imagination if the Para's pull a Lt Stone, or just let em go.

So begins my Vignette "Just the beer, sir?"

Coffee, Tea, or ...... BEER!Dec 26, 2007

Ok time to fill the cart up with goodies for our hard working paratroopers. I chose a vaired mix of items to keep it interesting. The large basket, and beer cases and bottles, including decals are from Plus Models, the jerry can from Tasca and the potatos, large hot food containers, bread, and metal... more

Putting the cart before the horseDec 23, 2007

Putting the figgies aside for a bit, let's concentrate on the cart. I scratchbuilt the cart from evergreen strip and used the wheels from the Tamiya 1/48 scale road sign set. Painting and finishing started with a base coat of Vallejo flat flesh. When set, it was given a heavy brushed on coat of... more

Go FigureDec 2, 2007

Figures are an intergral part of this vignette, infact without them its kinda lacking! I am not a world class figure painter, so this part was kinda difficult for me. For the Axis figures I used DML's Georgian Legion, Normandy 1944 set. I did swap out the heads with hornet's super offerings.... more

Up against the wallNov 20, 2007

I have completed the painting of the wall. I used Delta Ceramic colors from Wally World - super cheap, and cover really well. I have also finished adding the silfor grass and some other colorful plant life from the local craft store. The vine on the wall is from a root, and the gate a VP product.... more

Green thumbs NOT requiredSep 28, 2007

With the base in some color it is time to add some grass and such. My Purple trees are from Michael's crafts store and are SUPPOSED to represent hydrangea. I stained the branches a dark color with inda ink, then drilled two holes in the base and secured the plants with PVA. The grass is silflor,... more

Lets get going!Sep 25, 2007

Ok some more progress. What I have done here is to clean everything up - not much really needed. I found center in the wall top and drilled a hole to add a lamp from the VP range with a cheap knurled brass finding added for some decoration. The road base has been given a coat of burnt umber delta... more

Parts is parts - what you see is what you get.Sep 12, 2007

This is the review part of the blog. I hope it doesn't put you to sleep.

The set comes with two well sculpted and cast expanded resin parts, a sheet of dry transfers and a couple of 3x5 glossies to show different build options. There really isn't much clean-up to worry about, just a little... more
