I've ordered 10 copies of a new book from MBI publishing in the Czech Republic. It covers the last month of the WWII in Europe. Titled "May 1945 in the Czech Lands, Ground Operations of the Axis and Allied Forces." It's printed in parallel columns in the English and Czech languages. The authors are Tomas Jakl and Miroslav Bily, Prague, ISBN 80-86524-97-8, 144 pages, many color plates. The publisher's retail price on this IN EASTERN EUROPE is $40. Shipping will run $75 for the 10 copies to make it to the U.S. Books are heavy and airmail isn't cheap. I'm getting a dealers discount and so will offer copies to Track Linkers for $37.50 -- this works out to $30 for the book and $7.50 to cover an equal share of the $75 transatlantic shipping cost. I should be able to send these books to customers for $2 postage, $3 if you want it insured. Final price $39-$40 in the U.S. -- same as if you lived in Prague. The price for the book in the U.S. is bound to be $55 to $60, depending on the retailer. If you're interested, contact me now at bob.lessels@mindspring.com to reserve a copy. There's no need to pre-pay BUT if you reserve a copy, PLEASE be prepared to honor your request when it arrives. Fair enough? As we all know, there's a real dearth of information on these final days of the fighting. Lots of shooting guns, not much picture taking, and a lot of German film was captured and destroyed. German equipment was being cobbled together in the field (look at that wild 3cm FlaK on the Grille M chassis for example), troops were wearing mixed military and civilian/SS and wehrmacht uniforms, a lot of prototype equipment was dribbing into the hands of the German fighting forces, so who knows what we'll see in the book? Should be interesting and, of course, many of you already know the quality of books from MBI. They put out that excellent series on the Pz35/Pz38/Marder & Grille/Hetzer in the last few years. I still have one full set of these four books in stock BTW for $70 + $3 postage, plus a couple of single copies of the Hetzer book ($20 including postage). Great color art on the "unique-to-Hetzers" camouflage patterns in this one.
