For the past few days Saul Garcia has been telling me about a new series of books coming out from Totaldetail.com in Britain on the SdKfz 250 and 251 family of half tracks. The first book is now on Total Detail's warehouse in Britain and I'm going to import a few copies to see how much interest there might be in the series on this side of the pond. Personally I'm a major fan of the 250/251 vehicles and I hope to find a few of you in the same category. The first available book's title is "Vol 1 - Sd Kfz 250/1 Alt - Living History." I talked to the publisher, Simon Green, by e-mail tonight and he explained "there are in fact four books in the series as it stands today with the possibility of two more volumes in the future. The second book is actually volume three, part 2 (yes, it is out of sequence but some things are out of our control). This is the WWII photograph book featuring the 250 Alt second version and the later 250 Neu. This will be available from the beginning of September and the part 1 book about the 252, 253 and the first version of the 250 Alt will be ready for the beginning of October." Clear as a London fog? Right - let's press on. From what I understand the book is a combination of wartime photos and photos of restored vehicles. Should prove a treasure trove for superdetailers and restorers. Fair warning, these are going to be for the hard core 250/251 fan. The price is 38.5 pounds, or a few cents over US$70. Since these are hardbound books shipping in the US is going to run another $4 or so. As usual, I'll ship to Canada and outside the U.S. at actual cost although customers outside the U.S./Canada might wish to order direct from Totaldetail.com in Britain.
