It was said Tamiya was doing a Type 97, and some Tamiya drawings were posted on Missing Links... then it sort of just disappeared. Who knows.

Unfortunately Jap. stuff doesn't sell that well in 1/35 that I can't see a flood in 1/48. Unfortunately with just two kits on the market so far, its a shame they duplicate the same car!
