Hello All,

Just got my AFV Club SdKfz 251/20 Uhu in, from HobbyEasy Hong Kong.
For a very extensive and excellent review, please check Terry Ashley’s PMMS site.

Anyone building this kit, be aware of the following.
As far as I have gathered from my own research AFV Club made an error in the construction of the IR searchlight.

They say that transparent part K1 (ie. ‘the midddle glass’ where the louvres go, Step 12 in the construction booklet) should remain clear.
And that transparent part K4 (ie the ‘front glass’ ), Step 16, should be Tire Black.
First, Tire Black looks to me to be the entirely the wrong colour; it should be semi gloss almost-black dark red.
More importantly, they mixed things up here, I my humble opinion.
The ‘front glass’ K4 should remain clear whilst the ‘middle glass’ K1 should have the IR-light colour, that is this very dark reddish tint.

Anyone having information contrary to this, please tell.
Documentation on IR lights in use by the Germans towards the end of World War II is very hard to come by.

Either way, I am going to experiment with two possible options.
One will be a mix of Tamiya’s transparent colour range trying to get acceptable results by mixing X19 Smoke with X27 Clear Red.
If that falls beyond the acceptable I am going to use a circular cut of the proper diameter from a colour negative filmstrip, the bits at both the beginning and the end. And then affix this to K1.

I could even make this into a mini-blog, if anyone is interested.

Happy Modelling
Jerry
