| Subject: | Trumpeter glue test. | |

There have been some comments here and elsewhere about how problematic
the Trumpeter kits were to glue.
I've done a simple test using three figures from the Trumpeter K1A1 MBT
kit.
- Figure one was assembled using a fairly standard liquid cement
(Revell) the parts had almost no initial adhesion. I finally managed to
sort of glue the arms to the torso and let the figure dry overnight. I
then gently tugged at the arms to see if they would come apart, one did.
Not a very strong bond :-(
- Figure two was assembled using my favorite, Tamiya extra thin cement,
initial adhesion was better than Revell, but still not great. I also
managed to pull off an arm after letting the figure set overnight.
- Figure three was assembled using Plastic Weld, a liquid cement I
bought from Hannants and that bonds most types of plastic including ABS.
Initial adhesion was excellent and assembly was very strong (I made "the
arm test" only an hour afterwards and couldn't pry one apart).
In conclusion I wouldn't use "regular" liquid cement on Trumpeter kits,
but "specialized" cements work very well. I also had no problems
whatsover carving/sanding the Trumpeter plastic.
Cheers,
Christophe |
