If you do aviation modelling as well, you may be able to find something useful. I’ve just installed landing lights from a 1/48 F-4 as the driving lights for a 1/35 M107. A little bit of grinding out of the moulded lights, a dab of PVA (dries clear!), and they fitted the spaces perfectly without having to monkey with the lights themselves. Of course, I’ll have to do the infra-red lights the old-fashioned way - gloss black.
Also, shellac-based drawing ink is ideal for colouring odd things like lights and periscope lenses. It goes on reasonably well - the shellac stops it just running off the surface - and dries quickly to a nice hard surface. And, being transparent, you can keep adding coats. The only problem is that it’s not light-fast, but in the usual locations it’ll last a few years before you need to recoat it. Winsor & Newton is my brand here in the UK.
