Edward,
If that's what the instructions recommended, then you certainly did it the right way. Have you considered using a more aggressive decal solvent? I've always found Micro Set & Sol don't quite cut it with some decals, & so I switched to Gunze Sangyo's Mr.Mark Softer. This is specially formulated for use with Japanese decals, & works great with Tamiya & Hasegawa products. You just use it in the same way as Micro Sol & let it evaporate for a few hours, using more than once if necessary. The only other tip I'd recommend is one an aircraft modeller (bad words for this site!) taught me, which is once the decal is off the backing sheet & in position, take a face cloth soaked in hot water & wrung out & press the decal down firmly for a few minutes to get rid of air bubbles, & to get it to conform to the detail. This sometimes works by itself & no solvent is necessary, but if it's not quite there the solvent will do the rest.
If that doesn't work, then I'd use the big daddy of decal solvents, Solvaset (available in model railroad shops). This will shrink any decal but be careful! Some don't like it at all & will curl up in horror - test first. Solvaset can also leave marks on your base gloss coat, such as Future, so clean away excess leaving it only on the decal before allowing to dry.
Hope this helps you out.
Cheers,
Chris. |
