Roger,

I'm not sure about the standard length of tow cables for Shermans but I will see what I can find out.

The split hatch early and mid commander's cupola on the Sherman rotated on a set of ball bearings. The mount for the .50 cal MG was at first an intergral part of the hatch ring. When they went to the vision cupola a hinged mount was welded to the turret roof between the loader's hatch and commander's cupola. There was also a mount welded to the rear. The only part of the vision cupola that rotates is the inner section of the hatch. These cupolas are bolted from inside and stationary.

Hope that helps some.
