Hi Roberto,
I built one before the DML Stugs became available. At that time it was an
exciting, yet expensive, alternative to the old Tamiya kit. The first series of
Gunze kits were amazing multi-media kits that gave you all the engine deck
screens and photetch bits that were missing from the earlier kits. The level of
detail over the old Tamiya kit was outstanding. However, the metal parts were
difficult to fit and the detail on some of the metal parts was not as crisp as
today's high end resin and plastic kits.
That was then, this is now.
The DML stugs are easier to build (since they are plastic and do not have white
metal superstructures) and there is a wealth of after market products for the
Stug that were not available when the Gunze kit was first released. In addition
Tamiya released their own all plastic Stug that is far superior to the old
Gunze kit. Take Frank's advice and start with a cheaper kit and add better
after market products. You'll get a better finished product for about the same
amount of money as the old Gunze "high tech" kit.
Happy Modeling,
Mike Siggins |
