| Just as a follow up. I had the chance to actually look at the Hunnicut Sherman book and the assembly I mentioned, with duckbills on both sides was a result of some tests at Aberdeen. Then, help meet a critical shortage of tanks towards the end of WWII the tanks in the US used for training purposes were refurbished and modernized to bring them up to standards. One of the modernizations was the addition of the spacers and double duckbills. Many M4A1s quite a few M4A2s and a few M4A3 were thus equiped. It also mentioned "1000 kits were supplied for field modification". But it does not state how or if they were used. |
