Hi,
i'm an italian hobbyst and here is another way to weather real wood (this technique is very used by model train hobbysts):
dissolve in a half litre of vinegar (no matter if red or white) bottle a bunch of iron wool. When fully dissolve usa as a paint, the more you use the more the wood become darker.
