| Subject: | Removing sprue numbers for casting #s | |
| Date: | Dec 11, 2007 |
| From: | Dominic Miele | |
ok, what i'm talking about are the serial numbers found on cast metal parts. in particular, the mantlet on my present kit. academy has provided a whole sprue with tiny numbers and letters. all i have to do is carefully slice these digits off the sprue, then position them and give a drop of liquid plastic cement, and i'm done. WRONG!!!!
no matter how carefull i am, the numbers or letters curl or disfigure. i try to flatten them, but it doesn't help much and when they go to glue on they're curled up. attempts to lightly mash them down just disfigures them more!!! what is the technique that i'm missing here? how do i carve the numbers off the sprue to begin with, and how do i keep them from curling??
thanks, Dominic |
