Well, what I gave was an abridged version. The full text (all one sentence,
mind you) was:
"Enjoy your next 37 years alienating people with your offensive, selfish
opinions - its vernier wielding, constantly naysaying, rude, abrasive and
downright negative idiots like you who ruin other "normal" people's
enjoyment of their hobby...time to get a life and perhaps try being
constructive and pleasant for a change - you never know you may actually
find some friends?"
As to the meaning, you'll have to ask the guy who wrote it. Apparently he
does not like people who point out errors in kits, especially with
unabiguous statements such as "The real part is 4.5 inches, the kit part
scales out to 6 inches." If you don't sugar-coat it, you are being rude.
People should be protected, I guess, from learning that the kit they thought
was the World's Greatest actually has several dimensional flaws. I think
that some of these "normal people" are in fact deeply afflicted with AMS and
they feel a compulsion to correct any identified error. The fact that I
identify errors just makes more work for them. Learning that the Perfect
Kit is not so perfect ruins their whole day.
I should also add that there have been several people who have mentioned
that they do not like me measuring things, despite the fact that I have
always maintained that it is up to the modeler to decide if the error is
worth correcting. I believe there is this impression that I go about shows
grabbing the arm of everyone I see in a contest room, pointing out how this
or that error wasn't corrected. Anyone who has seen me in a contest can
report that this image far from the truth. In fact, I am hesitant to
express an opinion at all about a particular person's model, even when asked
by the builder. (Referring to a particular model as an example of a larger
modeling style is a different issue, and I only do that as a last resort.)
Anyways, I might get a chance to complete my ciphering this Friday. I'm
still interested in hearing what the perceived problem is with the Tamiya
wheels/tires, and where that perception comes from.
