Robert,
The mantlet cover was sculpted using epoxy putty. Cheapest tool to use would be toothpicks sand to the shape you want and coated with super glue. I have an assortment of dental tools that I got from my dentist and an X-Acto knife are my maIN Sculpting tools. Hope that helps.
