Robert,

There wasn't any attempt to make scale-like thickness and an actual cover. I just placed amounts of epoxy-putty (at the time I was using A+B putty)over an area and then sculpted the putty using photos as reference to the shape and folds. I also use rubbing alcohol to wet the tools so the putty doesn't stick to the tools. I have also found out that using the alcohol and a paintbrush you can smooth out the surface and blend edges. This is useful when blending in a soft area with an area that is already hard.
