First, Tiger is a M3 Hybrid with the welded sides. The rear may or may not be rounded.

The M3 line was continued alongside the M3A1 line and gradually transferred from rivetted to welded construction, while using up on hand parts. The first change was the easiest, i.e., the sponson sides. So, there are all kinds of "in-between" hybrids.

Other than the prototype and the diesel models, it seems that all M3A1's were welded.

While many M3 hybrids had the sponson gun ports blanked over and some early M3A1's used gun port sponson ends, the M3A1 sponson interior was changed and could not mount the guns, even if the crew wanted to do so. So, if there are sponson mg's it is a Hybrid.

The holy grail of the G103 Stuart group is to find a true surviving M3A1 with the square tail. Unfortunately, so far, all of them have turned out to be M3 Hybrids, post-war Frankentanks, or totally gutted interiors and therefore unverifiable.

The Latrun Stuart is promising, but no one has verified the turret basket or serial number.

If you are going with an out of the box build, the Academy M3A1 kit is OK for an M3 Hybrid as utilized by the British, Marines, US Army in NA and the USSR. Just leave out the turret basket, close the hatches or put a tank commander in it.

As noted Academy has a habit of getting dimensions and angles wrong. In this case, there are just enough little mistakes to throw the whole thing off, so there is no easy way to fix the hull. Fix one thing and it leads to another thing to fix.

Still, it looks like a Stuart when it's finished. So, it depends on your level of AMDS.

Good Luck with your project.
