Hey Guys! Dave Vickers here. Modeler, retired Marine tanker and now a gov guy working at Quantico, Virginia. First off, good to see Dave Harper and Chris Mrosko up on the net. Hey guys!
In regards to the threads on the EFV, Mike is right on the money (no pun intended). The EFV will be bought but USMC is only buying half of what they originally wanted (Mike had the correct numbers). Unfortunately, the less USMC buys the more it will cost per unit to make. Almost everything in industry has that problem.
Mike, hope you get the model done. That will be really awesome! Showing it in the water up on plane would be a really cool diorama if done right! In case you guys don't know what I am talking about when the EFV gets up to speed in the water a series of planes deploy out from the vehicle. It uses the planes to hydroplane across the water and man can it move! It makes a huge rooster tail.
The EFV has taken some undeserved harsh revues for such an advanced vehicle. No AFV in the world will have the revolutionary capabilites it has when it is complete. Going from our current AAVs to the EFV will be like going from a Model-T to a Ferrari. There is that much of a technological difference. (Oh, and I don't work for the EFV program! HA!) Happy modeling guys!
