Johnathon,
What is the white material on your base? One problem you might run into if you have a white ground cover is that it will show up through the grass.
I would make sure the ground is a dirt color before putting the glue down, or mix the glue with some grey/brown acrylic paint before you spread it out.
I like using a product called "Dirt" from Hudson & Allen. It's basically Celluclay that has been tinted a dirt color, and mixed with some additional materials. You mix it with water and a bit of glue and spread it on your base, and you can put static grass or other materials on it while it is damp.
Some guys use dirt from their yard or street and get good results.
