Pkw I/B tracks did the same thing. twisted and curved out of shape.
I found Tamiya extra-thin and Testor glue to be way to aggressive if not used very lightly. Poly S, on the other hand, did no harm but took 3 or 4 times longer to get the links ready to bend. Also the track lengths were nowhere near as strong with lots of breakages afterwards.
