Its all the same problem. The links themselves seem to be of a softish plastic. The joint areas shrank or deformed, and the links themselves bent and twisted up. Its not just a matter of straightening the sections out as the links are deformed a bit. It looks like the whole things was softened with a hair drier.

I had put the kit back in the box half built for a year or so. The track sections that were taped in place around the wheels are fine. The sections of built track, loose in the box and bunched up with some sprues, other parts, etc because badly deformed.

I have put other glued together track sections back in kit boxes before. I was actually just looking at a first issue Dragon Hummel with half glued tracks from 15 or so years ago that is fine.
