I've had an e-mail today from a modelling buddy in South Africa, enquiring as to whether I knew anywhere on line or otherwise where he could buy a Pyrogravure, which used to be available from Historex Agents in the UK but it seems they no longer carry them in stock.
For those who've never heard of it before, a Pyrogravure is a low-voltage soldering iron which gets just hot enough to melt plastic. It can be used in AFV modelling for roughing up weld beads or as a Zimmerit engraving tool as an alternative to the putty method; it was very popular in the era of Historex & other plastic figures for creating sheepskin effects or roughing up hair on figures. A similar tool in the USA I believe is called a hot knife.
My friend wants to know if there is any on-line retailer who stocks Pyrogravures & will ship internationally, or if anybody has one for sale 2nd-hand which they'd be prepared to part with. Any information would be welcome. Many thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Chris.
