"Expensive" is a relative term. You can get a basic soldering pencil for under $10. Unless you plan on doing a lot of soldering, an X-Acto hot knife might be more useful. That is sort of a cross between an X-acto, a soldering pencil and a wood burning pencil. A decent soldering gun like an Unger is fairly pricery.
I don't reposition a lot of plastic by heating. Like on figures its better to cut, reposition, then fill any gaps with epoxy putty. Or just swap arms, legs, etc with a similar figure in the right pose. On tanks I do use heat to batter up plastic fenders and track guards. Usually I use a lit incense stick, or a heated piece of metal pushed against the plastic. You could use a hot knife to gradually warm the parts, plus a hot knife is good for cutting large things, and making zimmerit and weld marks. |
