Hot water might be a better choice to bend a plastic tow cable. Or better, yet, clip the ends off the cables, drill them out, and insert a new cable made from soft, twisted wire (though some prefer black nylon cord sold for model ship rigging). The molded styrene cable almost never looks very good.
I do have an X-Acto Hot knife, but I haven't used it in years. Styrene has a very narrow range where it is soft but isn't melted, and it is all too easy to ruin a part by exposing it to heat for one second too long. |
