I am relatively new to building AFVs and would like some help with a certain term used by many reviewers of kits of AFVs. The term is 'sponson'. Now I know the dictionary definition of the word 'sponson', which is a projection, such as a gun platform, from the side of a tank or ship. However, when reading reviews of kit building I frequently encounter the phrase "filled in the sponsons with styrene sheet or plasticard". I would appreciate it very much if someone could explain this phrase to me in the context of scale modelling. Thanks
