If it is "official" applique armor you are talking about, it was simply
welded to the hull along its edges. No gussets or brackets.

The stowed MG had the barrel removed (right in front of the receiver) but
the cradle stayed attached. The cradle pintle was placed in the socket on
the bustle with the receiver fitting into the bustle brackets - it might
have been placed a bit catty-cornered, I forget. The barrel was stored in
clips in the bustle brackets. The turret pintle socket was just left there.
It could be folded down if some bolts were loosened, but that seems to be a
lot of trouble to put it back and forth.
