Hi guys,
After talking with the guys at the hobby shop yesterday and going over what
I might have done differently on the 250 vs 222 vs FAMO, we concluded it was
most likely 'user error'. Either:
A) the clear coat (X-22) hadn't dried long enough and the MM Acryl
reactivated it and created a semi-gloss. Since it is humid, Tamiya's gloss
acrylics do take a lot longer to dry.
or
B) I didn't mix the flat clear sufficiently.
I think it was reason A, as with the 222 I gloss clearcoated, decaled, gloss
cleared and flat cleared the same day. But with the 250 I clear coated,
decaled one day and then flat coated the next day.
I just finished putting on another coat of Model Master Flat Clear Acryl and
I had a much better result. Still still a hint of a sheen, but the humidity
(50%) could be the final factor.
Anyway, big sigh of relief. After about five weeks at the FAMO, I really
didn't need a unsatisfactory paint job. From now on I'll use the MM Gloss
Clear Acryl, rather then Tamiya X-22, for the decal undercoat.
