| Subject: | AFV Club design flaws - anyone besides me? | |
| Date: | Aug 8, 2001 |
| From: | Hervé CharbyCharbonneau | |
Hi guys!
Although the shortcomings of AFV Club's M18 have been exposed and
discussed at length many times before, there's one flaw that I had never
read about, or had overseen in the discussions. So just to make sure
it's not just me, I'd like to know if anyone else had experienced the
problem I had with the running (besides the poorly molded idlers,
inaccurate sprockets, misplaced suspension dampeners on one side,
high-set return rollers, etc.).
Working on assembling the running gear, I realized that if I simply
built the thing according to the instructions, using the parts provided
with the kit, the left-hand side idler would actually overlap the
frontmost roadwheel, and that unless I adjusted the right-hand side
idler to maximum backward elevation (limited by the tiny contraption
that attaches behind the idler mount), the rearmost roadwheel on that
side would nearly come into contact with the idler.
Now compared with what refs I have, this would not look "realistic". So
my question therefore, is this really a design flaw, or did I do
something wrong?
Just curious.
