No they are not 'punch & die', what you get is a small piece of steel
with a range of round, square, or hexagonal depressions.
They work quite simply, you heat the end of some sprue until it is
molten (careful not to ignite it), the molten end of the sprue is then
forced into the depression and a 'nut' or 'rivet head' formed.
The 'moulding' is then carefully sliced off (new blade is a good idea)
The process is then repeated.
The reverse of some plates is designed to act as a former for
'checker-plate'
