Mike,

There are various methods to do this.

Some use stretched sprue textured with a pyrogravure but I don't find
this very realistic.

Others use putty.

There are also aftermarket weld seams, some photo-etched some dry
transfer (Archer Fine Transfers do the later).

Personally I mask boths sides of the the weld seam area with Tamiya
masking tape and brush on Tippex correction liquid or diluted plastic
putty, when the Tippex is dry (very fast) or when the putty is dry
(takes longer), I carefully remove the masking tape.
