I have posted pictures of a Fuch that I built at:
http://www.bentbutnotbroken.com/AFV_german.htm
in the modern German Gallery ( courtesy of The Barrel Store, where I
purchased the aftermarket accessories). Some of the pictures are before
painting, so you can see the extent of the parts that were replaced.
If you are building the 1/35 scale vesion of the Tpz 1 Fuchs, there are
many "traps" to be aware of. The kit fits together very poorly, and many
of the external parts are only vague representations of the real thing.
The most significant problem is the fit of the suspension, and sorting out
how everything connects. Many parts are too short, or there are mismatches
between the size of locating pins and locating holes. I lengthened some of
the drive shafts, but to correct all of the problems, you would have to
re-engineer the kit , and since the drive train is very complex, it
probably isn't worth trying to fix. I was happy with the suspension once
it was strong enough to hold the wheels on.
This is the next "trap", the vinyl tires are difficult to remove the mold
seams from, like many vinyl tires lack the crispness of styrene or resin.
They are also weigh a lot, so make sure the suspension is sturdy enough. I
used them, but considered replacing them with aftermarket resin from MR
Models.
I used the MR Models MRA-3598 Resin and White Metal set and the Eduard 35244
PhotoEtch to replace most of the external kit parts. The mirror mounts,
steps and headlight gaurds were sratchbuilt from brass wire, plastic rod and
etch.
If I hadn't already glued the hull before the MR interior was available, I
would have included that, and it the MR tires were less expensive, I would
have had those too.
As far as placement of the cannisters, note on page 13 of the instructions,
on the left hand side is an overhead view of the Fuchs roof which
illustrates the placement.
At one point, I almost threw it in the garbage, but all said and done, it
was satisfying to extract an acceptable model from such a terrible kit.
Hope this helps
