Yes, I like a hard metal surface too (a heavy ruler in our case), a cutting
mat is too resilient and the PE would bend under pressure. The only drawback
is that the points break off the knives much faster because of that very
same hard surface. They fly away at faster speeds too, so I'm happy I wear
glasses!
