I always do the whole track in one run, using ultra thin Tamiya cement, then I
add or substract one or two links when I put the track on the suspension.

This is fine for 1/35 but I found in 1/72 you're generally better off with the
link and length method you mentionned adding individual links to the drive
sprockets/idlers rather than making a longer run and wrapping it around.
