"British Military Markings" by Peter Hodges is still the seminal work on
this topic. There are a number of web sites that cover the markings of
several vehicles or units, but this one makes a pretty good attempt at
the whole of the Commonwealth. There are some errors in the details (his
Canadian markings have some problems) but on the whole it explains what
is going on very well. You can buy this book in either its original
Almark Publications 1971 edition (ISBN 0 85524 28 8) or a quite recent
reprint on www.bookfinder.com for a very reasonable price.
As for the Guards Armoured, which regiment/brigade do you want to use?
