Guys,

Has anyone really thought this out? Out of all the things on a vehicle
to malfunction and require repair wouldn't you think the windshield
wipers would be a very low priority? It won't deadline a vehicle and it
certainly wouldn't prevent it from being used in combat or a field
exercise. Even in the late 1980's/early 90's the wiper systems on our
vehicles weren't that great and often made viewing through the
windshield more of a chore than anything else. It seems that the
assumption is that the average soldier had a vehicle with working
wipers, wiper blades that actually cleaned the glass instead of just
pushing around the dirt, and a soldier who was more concerned with a
clean windshield than the fact that his canvas top/tilt was missing!

If the roof is missing who cares about the front window!

> This got me thinking about windshields and weathering. Looking at LOTS of WW2 photos of softskins, in dry weather, I almost never see this cresent shape clear spot left by wipers! Unless the vehicle is in rain and modeled all wet and muddy, I think this wiper shape clear spot very unlikely and not at all realistic in most cases.
> In dry weather, you do NOT want to clean dust off the windshied with wipers as the dirty wipers will scratch up the glass! For dry dust, use a wet rag. I recall at the last AMPS I was critisized by a judge for overspray on the windshield when it was actually dust I was trying to represent.
