Happy holidays:
In the past I have mixed a variety of mediums with paint to produce convincing mud... I use tamiya flat earth paint XF-52 and.... artist grade PUMICE in the very fine form mixed with the paint also I have made a mix of a variety of colours with TERRACOTA and WATER which is applied with a spatula and then I play with that mix. See if it works for you.
