In industrial supply catalogs you can buy very fine wire mesh. You can get
up to 635 wires per inch ($615/sq ft.) which would be finer than real window
screen reduced down to 1/35! Realistically though, you can get what scales
to 5 openings per inch (~screen with 5mm openings) in stainless steel for
$10.35 for a 12 x 12 inch piece. Copper is also available, but only at a
maximum pitch of 100 opening per inch while bronze goes to 200 per.
