| The purpose of the muzzle brake is to reduce the force of recoil, thus limiting wear and tear on the gun. The muzzle brake directs gasses behind the projectile into two or more vents, which are usually directed slightly rearward. This exerts a forward push on the muzzle as the gun recoils. HTH |
