Well I'm going to risk it-.....
If you solder-it only takes practice- it was difficult for me at first
too but I have gotten use to doing it now....
I have heard that some people use clear enamel paint for some attaching
PE to the plastic. Also I use Future in some cases - I really don't like
using CA as it is very unforgiving - for some reason the things you want
to stick don't and things always stick to things you don't want them
to-This being said I do use it when needed which if something is not
soldered it will be CA'ed. Different adhesives should be used for
different situations. Future is a fairly "plastic" joint and is not as
clumsy as 5 min. epoxy, which I have used as well. I use the Future for
very tiny bits. These attachments with clear oil paint and Future must
be sealed with paint after though, to increase the security of the bond.
I find that the epoxy "blobs up" at the application point most likely
due to the size of its molecules?. I really hate using CA for PE-
something about the metal seems to accelerate the "kicking" process, so
there is little time for shifting around the piece to a good location-
you have to get it right the first time. I find the joints to be
brittle and fracture off easily when bumped- a source of great
frustration for me-thus my determination to master the soldering process
and now I solder whenever I can. The white residue you see when using CA
is a result of the oxidization of the CA during the kicking process-they
use this stuff in criminal investigations now to pick up finger prints
just because of this chemical reaction. The CA bonds can be increased in
strength by using an accelerate and this practice will also get rid of
the white stuff.I wish the the hulls and superstructures could be made
of metal as well. I know Aber did come out with a super structure for
the Panzer I and PanzerJager I but I'd love it if a Aber set for Panzer
III's and IV,V's and VI's were made. I have contemplated doing this
myself, scatching a super structure and turret from brass sheet but I
haven't tried this yet. - then everything could be attached to the hull
with solder. A more permanent solution. And I'm far from being an expert
thanks anyway Paul |
