I grew up in Mineola. When I was in fifth and sixth grade (1965 and
1966), my buddies and I used to go "dumpster diving" behind the Renwal
factory looking for enough half molded sprues and other rejects to cobble
together free kits. Occasionally, the workers would let us come in to see
the operation. Also, Aurora was in West Hempstead, Long Island, which was
only a 15 minute car ride from Mineola. My father would take me there on
occasion to buy kits directly from the factory. Fun, fun, fun.
