If you ever saw the R&J versions, you'd understand! :)
The R&J pieces were great, because they were semi concave, with the pattern on the outside. It made it very easy to simply scrape these things across the surface of the model to put the pattern in. Furthermore, the action of scraping them across the surface of the model also helped keep the putty at a relatively uniform depth that I found difficult to do purely by hand. Finally it came with other scrapers that you could use to provide the verticle and horizontal lines that made doing the Panther pattern a snap! Too bad I lost them before I could use it on any of my Panther projects... :(
