I believe some notificable changes in the mid to late production Stugs had to do not only with Mantlet options but with top fenders arrengment, bracket supports and return wheels as well. Gunze/Dragon Stug-StuH (late) offers a type of fender support seen in later type vehicles built by ALKETT (MIAG ?)..If you want to back date your vehicle to an earlier period you gonna have to replace the upper fenders plus their supports with Photoetch replacements and also use the mandatory rubber return rollers. As for wanting to build a late model you'd be ok with both mantlet options.
It has been a looonng time since I too looked for a similar project and That's what I remember off the top of my head.
