For a good set of inexpensive tracks with good detail, try a set from Maquette. They're $5 - $7 U.S. (sometimes less throguh Squardon Mail Order) and assemble fine. The molding quality can be spotty, with one set fine and another set with ejector pin marks and sink holes though. At that price it never hurts to try a set; at worst you only get a handful of track pieces with good detail that can be added as "additional armor" for StuG kits or used as spares on other T-34's. Inconsistent molding, they do have good detail.
RHPS has advertised they would be doing T-34 tracks sets about 6 months to a year ago, but I haven't seen them yet. If available those are supposed to be considerably cheaper than the aftermarket options already listed and just as detailed and easy to assemble as their Sherman sets are.
You won't find many other options out there other than those mentioned though. The sets from each manufacturer listed easily sell for at least $30+ dollars, sans the set from RHPS, again, if available.
I liked the tracks in the kit and found nothing wrong with them myself. They don't have bolt detail and are prone to ejector pin marks, admittedly. The bolt detail can easily be added with some hex rod from Plastruct, a jig to cut same size pieces (or a NWS Chopper) and some patience. Doing that is cheaper than the aftermarket items (and ya get that "I did it" feeling...if you want it...). Hey, if you don't want them, may I have them?? |
